AI4H PROJECT

AI4H – Artificial Intelligence for Home Carers

The AI4H project aims to improve the level of knowledge of informal caregivers about existing applications based on Artificial Intelligence (AI) engines that can find application in daily caring activities of the elderly people.

It means a knowledge and upskill on what recent advancements in consumer products and solutions (i.e. associated services) could be usefully configured, customized and utilized to improve quality of life of person that informal caregivers take care of and for themselves too.

The AI4H project is helping to overcome the barriers that adults face in accessing the opportunities offered by artificial intelligence (AI)-based solutions in home care services, as well as in using these devices and solutions in the care of a dependent person in an informed and safe way.

Demographic aging is among the most serious challenges Europe is facing. Europeans are living longer than ever before and the age profile of society is rapidly developing. The scale of this phenomenon, and the limitations on the availability of institutional care for dependent people (including the elderly) means that an important role in providing care for the eldery with dignity is that one provided at their place of residence.

On the other hand, we live in a world where new technologies – including those based on artificial intelligence (AI) – are constantly changing every sphere of our lives, not only in medicine but in virtually every sector of the economy. There are already solutions on the market that make use of artificial intelligence: care robots, mobile applications used in care, the Internet of Things (IoT), such as wearable devices that automatically collect patient health data such as heart rate, blood pressure or body temperature and provide access to personalised medical advice. They can also tell you to contact your doctor if necessary.

The main barriers to the use of these types of devices and solutions by adults in the home care of a dependent person are a lack of sufficient knowledge and operational skills in their use, fear of misdiagnosis through these apps or concerns about protecting the sensitive data that these devices collect and process.

The AI4H project is helping to overcome these barriers by providing knowledge and skills in the use of AI-based devices and solutions in the care of an older person and demonstrating the benefits of their use in the provision of home care.

New technologies based on artificial intelligence are becoming more and more prevalent in our lives. In the near future, they will become an indispensable part of our lives, affecting an important and increasingly long part of everyone’s life.
If you are wondering how new technologies can improve the quality of life of the person you are caring for in a home setting, what facilitations and benefits they bring, we invite you to explore the content on this page. Here we will present concrete examples and solutions that can support and facilitate home care for a dependent person.

Specific objectives

to increase the digital competences of adult informal carers that help them to improve their care competence of the dependent elderly people at home environment.

to create and transfer practical support and tools on how to implement existing Artificial Intelligence (AI) based innovative solutions for improving care of dependent elderly people at home environment

to increase competences of informal carers for self-care to help them face the ethical challenges of caring, reduce their burden in taking care of their depended family members.

to apply Artificial Intelligence (AI) based assistive technologies for improving quality of life for dependent elderly people at home environment.

to promote lifelong learning by offering flexible learning paths for adults in the form of an open digital platform.

Target groups

The TARGET GROUP of the AI4H project are:

  • ELDER PEOPLE
  • PERSONS who act as NON-FORMAL CAREGIVERS and support dependent persons, in particular older persons with varying degrees of dependency in a home setting. These are persons who provide regular, sustained, physical and/or emotional support and assistance to dependent persons, including the elderly in daily activities at home.
  • CARERS of dependent persons from non-profit organisations, volunteers or assistants who do not have specialised training or medical training to care for a dependent person at home.

Indirectly the AI4H project is address to:

  • professional caregivers and care service assistants – i.e. employees of organisations involved in care services for seniors and the elderly
  • Institutions involved in health and social care and education in this area
  • National and regional policy makers, schools, employer organisations, social partners, training organisations and adult education providers
  • Researchers, service providers and technology providers in the fields of disability and ageing
